The Faculty Mentoring Program and match process are currently being redesigned. Please look for more information in spring 2026.
The Faculty Mentoring Program was founded in 1989 and is designed to foster meaningful, long-term professional relationships that support faculty success and build a stronger academic community. The program annually recognizes outstanding mentors with the Slesinger Award.
Each participating tenure-track assistant professor is paired with a tenured faculty member who shares similar academic interests but remains at arm’s length from the promotion and tenure process. This mentoring relationship complements, but does not replace, departmental mentoring structures, enhancing the guidance and support available to early-career faculty.
In addition to one-on-one mentoring, the program supports a variety of peer mentoring groups—informal networks that encourage collegiality, spark new research ideas, promote shared learning, and help faculty navigate the university environment.
