Flying Cars & Bigots: Projecting the Post-COVID World Through the Atlas of the Civic Imagination

October 14, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Lecture by Professor Henry Jenkins, Provost Professor of Communication, Journalism, & Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California

Launched in April 2020, the Atlas of the Civic
Imagination offered a space where people could share
their hopes and anxieties about what life would look like
on the other side of the pandemic, presenting
participants from around the world a blank canvas and
asking them to imagine what kind of future they wanted
to see emerge from the current crisis. Would the
pandemic offer a starting point from which people might
imagine the world otherwise? This talk shares some of
the voices and perspectives we heard as they addressed
concerns about technology, the environment, the new
world order, and the importance of human connection,
and as they offered glimpses of the potentials for new
kinds of post-pandemic citizenship.
